And he's not just an Elvis impersonator, although his three homemade capes and polyester jumpsuits sure do look the part.
To his family, friends and even other Elvis Presley impersonators, Curry is the heart of Elvis: pure, giving and humble. That heart, in addition to not having a nervous bone in his body, is what makes the 19-year-old with Down syndrome as authentic an Elvis as the King himself.
"This guy's for real," said Chris Shupe, who has been an Elvis impersonator for 30 years. "He knows the moves. He knows the words. He's the real deal."
Shupe performs monthly at Buffalo's Southwest Café and, for the past two years, has been inviting Curry to share the spotlight.
Curry comes up for the encore, his mother, Annie says, and typically sings "An American Trilogy." He also does a good rendition of classics like "C.C. Rider" and "That's All Right," just as Presley performed them in his 1968 comeback special.
The Clarke Central High sophomore met Shupe when Shupe performed at his 18th birthday. The two have grown closer ever since.
"He's so cool," Curry said of Shupe, who was sitting beside Curry at his house. recently.
"Not as cool as you, man," Shupe said. "You're the coolest."
